Blackface Biography

Blackface was born as Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo in 1974 in Obalende Lagos, but he hails from Ogwule, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. He started his education at Army Children's School Otukpo, then proceeded to Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School Makurdi. He later attended the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, where he obtained a National Diploma in Business Administration and Management.

Blackface began his musical career in 2000, when he formed a band called Plantashun Boyz with his friends 2face Idibia and Faze. The band released two successful albums, Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003), before they split up in 2004 due to creative differences. Blackface claimed that he wrote most of the songs for the band, including "African Queen", which became a global hit for 2face.

After the breakup of Plantashun Boyz, Blackface embarked on a solo career and released several albums, such as Ghetto Child (2004), Evergreen (2005), Jungle Fever (2007), Me Musiq and I (2008), Dancehall Business (2010), Prospective Defender (2013), Defender Vol.1 (2016), and Defender Vol.2 (2018). Blackface Music Genre

Blackface is a versatile artist who can sing in different genres of music, but he is mostly known for his dancehall, ragga, and reggae style. These genres are influenced by Jamaican music culture and feature fast-paced beats, catchy hooks, patois lyrics , and social commentary. Blackface is one of the pioneers of these genres in Nigeria and Africa, as he introduced them to the mainstream audience through his songs and performances.

Some of his most famous songs in these genres are "Hard Life", "E Dey Pain Me", "Ahead of the Game", "Killah", "Erema", "Show Me The Way", "See You Again", "We Are Africans", "Music Is Life", "Be Your Man", and many more. He has also released several albums that showcase his dancehall, ragga, and reggae skills, such as Dancehall Business, Prospective Defender, Defender Vol.1, and Defender Vol.2.

Blackface has also influenced many other artists who have followed his footsteps in these genres, such as Patoranking, Burna Boy, Timaya, Cynthia Morgan, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, among others. He has also received several awards and nominations for his contributions to the Nigerian and African music industry, such as the Nigerian Music Awards, The Headies, Channel O Music Video Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, Kora Awards, among others.

Blackface Controversy

Blackface is no stranger to controversy, as he has been involved in several disputes and scandals throughout his career. One of the most controversial issues he faced was his stage name, which is derived from the term blackface, a form of theatrical makeup used by non-black performers to represent a caricature of a black person. This term is considered offensive and racist by many people, especially in the United States and other Western countries.

Blackface explained that he chose his stage name because he wanted to represent the black race and culture in his music. He said that he was inspired by Bob Marley, who also used the term blackface to refer to himself and his bandmates. He also said that he was not aware of the negative connotations of the term when he started his career, and that he did not mean to offend anyone with his name.

Another controversy that Blackface faced was his feud with his former bandmate 2face Idibia, whom he accused of stealing his songs and lyrics. He claimed that 2face copied his song "African Queen" without giving him credit or royalties. He also alleged that 2face stole other songs from him, such as "Let Somebody Love You" and "Ole". He sued 2face for N50 million for damages in 2017, but the case is still pending in court.

Blackface also criticized 2face for supporting the #EndSARS protests in 2020, which were aimed at ending police brutality and corruption in Nigeria. He said that 2face was a hypocrite who only joined the protests for publicity and fame. He also said that 2face was part of the problem and not the solution, as he had allegedly betrayed him and other artists in the past.
